This is my blog about my medical journey through Lymphoma. I was diagnosed April 11, 2006. Currently, I am in remission with a high chance of cure. It was non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, specifically Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma. The tumors ended up being in my hip, my sternum and my backbone. I have left the blog up for anyone to read, and I also use it to remember all I went through. Because of all the drugs and stress, some of it is foggy, so it is fun to go back and see what I went through!

Deer Hunt

I had to post this picture of my brother's first deer and of my sister's pet. I can't believe my punk brother got a 12-pointer. I've hunted at our farm many frigid Texas mornings and never even shot at a deer. My brother, Matt, is that funny looking guy on the tailgate. My sister, Jennifer, is the pretty one in the dress. She would never hunt, she loves animals - I am sure many Californians will identify with her. Her pet deer lives around my family's house, and fortunately cannot make the trek to my family's farm down south of San Antonio.

And there's my dad and Matt. Matt is going to visit me in a couple weeks. Rusty is the other brother, but he never visits me because he is a big jerk. Maybe that will motivate him. My dad, mom, and sister all visited me when I was getting diagnosed.

Those pictures make me homesick.

My health continues to improve and I feel great, relatively speaking. My hip still has some lingering pain, and I have started to try to rehab it. I have had way more energy and it feels great to coach again at closer to my normal level. I have tryouts for my City Beach 16's team tomorrow, so the next season of club volleyball is already starting. My Sacred Heart Prep varsity is the #1 seed in the first part of post-season, and we have a chance of going to the state championships if we can execute. My medical leave ended this week, so Monday is my first day back at the Stanford Children's Hospital School. I am excited to return, and I am looking forward to getting back to normal.

that reminds me! i had a dream that i had multiple deer friends the other day but you shot them...it was sad. its kind of scary that matt is so deft with a gun. but i AM excited hes coming back cuz that means its doubles time! ive very much so noticed that you have more energy. your eyes are doing the tennis ball thing more often now. plus you seem happier at practice (i know why). im glad youre feeling better and no worries, we WILL go to state. the squirrels say so.

Yo bro, are you planning on going to NCVA Nationals this year? They are in Austin, which I'm sure you know. We could use a ball boy or shagger if you wanted to go with our team...:)

my dad made us eat venison for a whole month one november when I was eight. Steaks, roasts, sausages and patties.... eww! i can't take the taste of deer ever again. i still get slightly nauseous watching bambi.... not that I watch it on purpose or anything. ;-)
