This is my blog about my medical journey through Lymphoma. I was diagnosed April 11, 2006. Currently, I am in remission with a high chance of cure. It was non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, specifically Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma. The tumors ended up being in my hip, my sternum and my backbone. I have left the blog up for anyone to read, and I also use it to remember all I went through. Because of all the drugs and stress, some of it is foggy, so it is fun to go back and see what I went through!

Done with my injections for first round

Last night I vomitted between 20-30 times. It was nothing like the college deep-sea fishing trip my friend Chris Cov. made me go on...probably vomitted 100+ times there. The "Law of Diminishing Returns" applies to vomitting, so any more than 10 vomits are dry-heaves. If you go to www.jasontrip.com you can see my picture hooked up to my first chemo IV. The clear medicine they are giving me in that picture is actually an anti-vomitting drug, which turned out to be useless to me. They give that to me first before the adriamycin, which they inject while sitting there next to me. If you click on that link, you can see that it is red. They follow the adriamycin with the vinchristine, and then the somethin-toxin. Those guys did their job, because I vomitted. The next four mornings I am then to take Prednizone by pill. That completes one CHOP treatment. They think my vomitting is done, but I am still worried it will come back. Vomitting is not as fun as you would think. Today I received my Rituxan with no complications, and they claim that there is no side effects that should happen from that after they get it in me. So I've got my CHOP+R, now I just wait for my body to wear down.

By the way, if you notice www.jasontrip.com is up with a picture and link to email me and a link to this daily blog. It has an easier url to remember and is a good starting point. I intend to upgrade that site a little more, and continue the daily blog for anyone that is interested.

Dear Jason. This comes late, but have you thought of eating a little after every purge - something soft and easy to come up, such as jello or milkshakes - perhaps that would be better than dry heaves. How we ache to know you are going through this. People who have never met you are praying every day, and the circle gets bigger all the time. You've made it to the top of my best friend's prayer list, and your family never stops praying for you. Hold on, buddy, and let yourself rest whenever you are able.

Hey Jason,
We're all thinking of you at School. The kids are asking about you and we hope you'll feel well enough to check in next week.

Well, at least you wore the right shirt to vomit in. Though having NCVA printed across your chest may be the cause of your dry heaving. I would remove it immediately. :-)

Please keep up the blogging. Candi and I are reading it daily to see how you are doing.

Hey don't give up on anti-nausea drugs. Different drugs affect people differently. Brittany recommends fenegren and I recommend zofran. Although the LAST thing you want to do is eat, you absolutely have to force yourself to because you need the nurtients. Even if you throw is up, for the few minutes it is in your stomach, your body can use those nutrients. It's best to eat as much as you can now because later it gets worse. Have food with you everywhere. Maybe like bananas cuz they're soft and they have potassium. Maybe stay away from anything acidic like oranges when your stomach is upset. But when you're feeling better from the chemo, even if you're not hungry, just EAT because you're going to need some reserve for when you are in chemo and you're throwing everything up. Brittany, Raul, Kathy and I put these tips together for you but this comment is too long so I'm gonna put it on another one.

TIPS FOR JASON:
1. Don't eat yellow snow
2. Keep your computer away from you. You WILL throw up on it.
3. To prevent yourself from throwing, keep yourself occupies (movies, friends), or take sleeping medication like attivan that will help you go to sleep.
4. Get a binder for all your documents. Write everything down and it keep it with you. Stay organized because you will need all of these documents later. If you don't have the energy to do it, assign one of your friends to do it because it is very important. Double check before you go in for treatement, what the insure covers and doesn't cover because they may charge you for things they aren't supposed to charge you for and that's when you use your binder with all the documents.
5. Keep yourself clean. Don't forget to shower. We're not saying you stink, but sometimes you might not have the energy to, but try to shower as much as you can cuz when your counts go down you can get yourself sick.
6. Sleep. sleep is as important as eating, especially when your counts are low because that's when you cells reproduce the most. Don't try to push yourself because you need all the energy you have.
7. Don't work out hard-core but make sure you exercise lightly so your muscles don't atrophy (especially since you're in a wheel chair a lot)
8. Carry around a thermometer because if you get a fever, you must go to the ER. YOu're body won't be able to fight it as it used to.
9. No raw food because you're immunity will be low. SO that means steaks should be somewhat well done and cook your veggies. Don't share food, even if the other person isn't sick.
10. It's ok to be grouchy! Use the cancer card!
(11. stop supporting SH and go back to MENLO!)

Hey Jason,
I just thought of another tip.
Keep your mouth clean.
If you can't use a toothbrush because your counts are low use mouth wash.
If you don't use mouth wash or keep your mouth clean you might develop painful mouth sores.Trust me you don't want mouth sores.Ask anyone.
